Building antotogether

"At anto, interns don't just support projects, they help build them."

This year, our engineering team welcomed three interns from the Tecnológico de Monterrey through its university exchange programme in Brandenburg. Although they arrived through the same academic partnership, each came with different goals and expectations. What united them was the chance to learn by doing.

For our interns, engineering meant more than applying classroom knowledge, it meant solving real problems, collaborating across teams, and seeing their work become part of a product used in the real world.Throughout their internship, they contributed directly to product development while gaining first-hand experience of life inside a fast-growing startup in Berlin.

What made you apply for an internship at anto?

Oscar, Sebastián and Abner joined us for a three-month engineering internship and thesis work. While each had different ambitions, they were all looking for something that a startup can uniquely offer: ownership of real projects, different responsibilities, and room to grow.

For Oscar, it was particularly exciting to experience life in a startup firsthand. Sebastián was motivated by the opportunity to develop as an engineer, while Abner was particularly drawn to the dynamic environment and the wide range of tasks.

"I really wanted to challenge myself in a startup and be involved in different areas."
— Oscar

"I thought it would be a great opportunity to develop myself as an engineer in a startup."
— Sebastián

— Sebastián

"We were having a school project with Karl and he was very attentive to the project so naturally it seemed like a good opportunity "
— Abner

What was your biggest challenge?

Moving from Mexico to Germany meant adapting to much more than a new workplace. Their first accommodation was located quite far from the office, making the daily commute especially challenging during the winter months.

Beyond adjusting to life in Germany, they also had to adapt to the rhythm of a startup. Projects moved quickly, priorities shifted, and no two days looked the same. Sebastián found balancing multiple projects overwhelming at first, but soon began to appreciate the variety. Oscar experienced something similar.

"At first, the workload felt overwhelming, but I started to enjoy doing many different things at once. Every day was different."

— Sebastián

"For me, it was mainly about getting used to a fast-paced environment and working with manual tools."

— Oscar

Fortunately, integrating into the team was easier than expected. English quickly became the common language, and working in an international environment meant that communication was never a barrier.

"Karl was always supportive as a leader and very open to using English, so language was never really a problem. It made adapting much easier."

— Sebastián

What achievement are you most proud of?

"Getting our work into production was probably my proudest achievement."

— Sebastián

"Of all the skills I have developed, I am probably most proud of my adaptability."

— Oscar

Throughout the year, the interns learned how to collaborate across teams, adapt designs based on real manufacturing constraints, solve unexpected problems, and communicate technical ideas. They also experienced the fast-paced decision-making that comes with working at anto, where curiosity, initiative, and adaptability are just as valuable as technical knowledge.

Describe your internship in one word

Adventure  Flexibility

Autonomy

Although each internship experience was unique, all three agreed on one thing: the experience pushed them outside their comfort zones and accelerated their learning in ways that wouldn't have been possible in a traditional classroom.
