Chasing the Wind with Aya

From archery to kiteboarding – how sport became a way of life

Some people find a passion and stay true to it for a lifetime.  Aya found a new one that completely changed her direction.

A former top-level archer and now a Guinness World Record kiteboarder, Aya spends much of her life travelling, training, and chasing the wind. Whether she's preparing for the next challenge or simply moving through everyday life, staying active has always been part of who she is.

We caught up with our ambassador to talk about sport, motivation, and why mobility means much more than simply getting from A to B.

Hi Aya! Tell us a little about yourself.

Aya: I'm Aya, a professional kiteboarder and adventure lover. Before kiteboarding I competed professionally in archery, but in 2019 I discovered the sport of kiteboarding and everything changed. Since then, I've been constantly looking for new ways to challenge myself.

You're always on the move. What role does mobility play in your everyday life?

You switched from archery to kiteboarding. What inspired such a big change?

Aya: Archery fulfilled me for many years. I won two world titles and broke world records.  But winning wasn't necessarily my goal.  My success was merely the outcome of a deep passion for the sport and a desire to challenge myself.

Kiteboarding is something vastly different from archery. But sometimes you find something that simply feels right. Kiteboarding combines speed, freedom, nature, and technique in a way that immediately clicked and inspired me to become a student once again. Once I started, I knew I wanted to dedicate myself to it completely.

What does a typical day look like?

Aya: Every day depends on the wind. You'll rarely see me without my board nearby. Some days I'm on the water for hours, while others are spent travelling, preparing equipment, working out, or planning future trips. Flexibility is part of the kiteboarding lifestyle.
Aya: For me, it is incredibly important to be able to move around easily. Whether I'm going to training, exploring a new city, or running errands – I enjoy the freedom to get wherever I want at any time without having to think too much about it.

What role does your bike play in that?
Aya: It's something I use naturally throughout the day. We recently added a custom basket setup, which makes it much easier to carry everything I need. It's practical, simple, and definitely fits my lifestyle.

What do you like most about anto?
Aya: anto stands for an ant—a small but incredibly strong creature that can carry many times its own weight. I weigh barely 60 kilos myself, but with my bike and the rack, I can carry so much more than I could otherwise. I really like that idea: being small, strong, and always ready to move effortlessly
As someone who has broken world records, what keeps you motivated?

Aya: There's always something new to learn. I enjoy challenging myself and seeing what's possible. For me it's not only about competition—it's about enjoying the journey and continuing to grow.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to try something completely new?
Aya: Don't wait until you feel perfectly ready. Never be ashamed to be a student, starting from the beginning again. Sometimes the biggest adventures begin with simply giving something a chance.

Thank you very much, Aya!

For sharing your story with us and inspiring us to stay active, discover new things, and continually face new challenges. We are excited to see where the wind takes you next.
